Nikon Z fc - Hands On with three videos

Analog design and outstanding quality combined

Reading time: 8 minutes - July 28, 2021

In these videos, we present the new Nikon Z fc in detail together with Nikon expert Juliander En?le. We tried it out extensively on a short shoot and tested its user-friendliness. Juliander also gives you a little insight into the future, what new features you can look forward to and explains a little more about the Nikon Z system! Have fun with these videos.

Nikon Z fc + 28mm f/2.8

Inspired by the analog series

The new Nikon Z fc is particularly suitable for newcomers, travel photographers and professionals who want to have a stylish second camera with them. The mirrorless APS-C camera Z fc was inspired by the celebrated SLR camera Nikon FM2 from the early 80s and impresses with authentic design details. With 20.9 megapixels and a rotatable and tiltable touch display, it is the perfect companion.
It is small and compact, consists of a robust aluminum body and weighs approx. 445g. Together with the Z 28mm f/2.8 SE, it represents the earlier design of the original AI Nikkor lenses for the Nikon FM2. The 28mm offers a beautiful wide-angle look with brilliant sharpness and great bokeh thanks to the 2.8 aperture. It is available as a special edition and came out exclusively with the Nikon Z fc and is based on the old design. Even the fonts for the lens name have been adopted. The Nikkor Z DX 16-50mm 3.5-6.3 VR was also released as a classic travel lens kit.

Kristof G?ttling - Nikon Z5

Simple and quick to operate

The dials are arranged in the same way as on the Nikon FM2 and are made of solid aluminum. The mechanism works with incredible precision. We were able to put the dials to the test during our shoot. They are quick and easy to operate, which is particularly important if you want to capture a moment quickly. ISO, aperture and shutter speed as well as exposure compensation can be set easily without having to search for a long time. You also always have an overview of the aperture, as a small display has been added to the top.

Top quality and user-friendliness cleverly combined!

The Z fc has a high-resolution electronic viewfinder with 2.36 million pixels. However, the eyepiece is round - just like the optical viewfinder of the Nikon FM2. The viewfinder displays the subject with great clarity and is automatically activated when you bring the camera to your eye. Thanks to the high-resolution sensor and the wide ISO range of the ISO automatic from 100 to 51,200, the Nikon Z fc delivers outstanding sharpness, detail and clarity by day and night. The eye autofocus has been optimized for people and animals, so you can photograph your friends and family quickly and easily, with movement always in focus! The Nikon Z fc is also impressive when it comes to video! With 30p at 4K/UHD or slow motion at Full HD, you can turn your moments into great shots. Thanks to the rotating and tilting touch display, you can easily create vivid vlogs of yourself. Nikon has therefore brought out a Z-fc vlogger kit that combines perfect sound and image quality.

What to expect in the future!

You still have old Nikon lenses? That's no problem here either! With the bayonet adapter, you can easily attach your Nikkor lenses with F bayonet, but you can also continue to use your Nikkor Z lenses.
In addition, Juliander En?le gives a little insight into the future of the Nikon Z series. You can look forward to numerous new products in the lens area that will make your photographer's heart beat faster!
