The designation Nokton is only given to fast lenses in the Voigtländer range that have a maximum aperture of F1.5 or higher. When the first Nokton was released in the 1950s, the Lens made it possible to take pictures even in low ambient light. Today, however, with the constant development of image sensor sensitivity, the advantage of a fast lens is the ability to achieve exceptional creative expression through a special bokeh with the aperture open.

The Nokton 40 mm F1.2 aspherical is a fast manual lens. The lens is the world's first 40 mm lens for full-frame format with an F1.2 aperture while retaining its compact size. The optical design incorporates two aspherical lens elements so that you can enjoy reliable optical performance and soft bokeh at maximum aperture.

When used on cameras with an APS-C sensor, the focal length of 40 mm then corresponds to approximately 60 mm, so the lens can be used universally as a standard lens on both full-frame cameras and APS-C cameras. The aperture has a setting in 1/3 steps. The Lens is equipped with the selective aperture control system to enable stepless adjustment of the aperture when shooting video.
