Outstanding AF performance for aesthetic shots
Thanks to Sony's innovative technologies, the fast and precise autofocus lets you capture fleeting moments down to the smallest detail. The 425 AF phase detection points combine with AF Contrast Detection to deliver the impressive speed of 0.02 sec12. High-density AF tracking technology is capable of tracking even aimlessly moving subjects.
Continuously focus on subjects with real-time tracking
When tracking a fast-moving subject, the camera's motion tracker uses an enhanced subject detection algorithm (AI)13 and takes into account color, pattern (brightness), subject distance (depth), and face or Eye information to detect the subject and maintain focus on it.
Improved AF with Real-time Eye Detection for Portrait Shooting
Real-time Eye Detection AF detects your subject's eyes and automatically focuses on them when you half-press the shutter button. You can even select whether to focus on the left or right eye. When AF-C is engaged, focus is maintained throughout - even when part of the face is obscured, the subject is backlit, or looking down.
Precise autofocus in low light
The camera's improved AF algorithm means autofocus is extremely precise even in low light. A high AF sensitivity means that AF-S autofocus can work down to EV -218.
Real-time eye detection AF for animals
Real-time eye detection AF technology has been adapted to detect animal eyes14. When this feature is enabled, animal eyes are detected and tracked quickly, accurately, and automatically for beautiful animal portraits and wildlife shots.
High-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking
Capture everything with continuous shooting at up to 11 frames per second15. Even when using the silent shutter16 or Live View mode, up to 8 frames per second15 are possible. Display lag has been reduced to a minimum, and you can take up to 116 JPEG (standard)17 shots in each burst. There is also the option of group display in playback mode.
Focus magnification for more precise focus adjustment in MF and AF modes
When the focus needs to be especially precise, for example when shooting macro, you can display the area you want to focus magnified and then adjust the focus point ultra-precisely on the touch screen or with the focus point selector.
Easy manual focus with clear peaking feature
When using manual focus, the peaking feature highlights the most sharply focused part of the image area in color. Blue has been added to the display peaking colors (in addition to red, yellow, and white) to improve the visibility of areas in focus during high-precision focusing for macro and portrait shooting.
Integrated 5-axis optical image stabilization
The integrated 5-axis optical image stabilization of our popular full-frame cameras has been adapted for use as a stabilization unit for this model's APS-C sensor. This system compensates for camera shake along five different axes (tilt and pan, horizontal and vertical axes, and rotation axis) to increase stability during handheld photo and video shooting. A high-precision gyro sensor provides an image stabilization effect equivalent to 5 steps19 faster shutter speed. The feature allows you to zoom in on distant subjects, take detailed close-ups, shoot night scenes and more - all with minimal blur from camera shake.
Innovative image processing
The 24.2-megapixel APS-C format Exmor CMOS sensor20 provides a wide sensitivity range and reduces image noise to a minimum. Combined with the latest-generation BIONZ X image processor, it produces ultra-sharp, high-resolution, aesthetically pleasing images with excellent texture reproduction.
Excellent image quality, low noise, and wide ISO range
Maximum ISO standard sensitivity has been increased to ISO 100-32,000 (with expansion to ISO 50-102,400 for stills). Improved imaging algorithms, rich detail technologies, and range-splitting noise reduction provide more realistic textures, greater detail in shadow areas, and more natural colors, skin tones, and plant renderings.
4K movie recording in XAVC S format with a high bitrate21
The Super 35 mm format and 4K movie recording with full pixel display without pixel binning enable approx. 2.4 times oversampling22, as large amounts of data are required for 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160). Downscaling of videos whose resolution corresponds to 6K provides a more lifelike display with more details. The video codec XAVC S21 with high bit rate (up to 100 Mbps at 4K 30p/24p) enables professional-quality images in a user-friendly format.
Precise AF tracking with real-time eye-detection AF for better movie shooting
Fast hybrid AF provides high speed, precision, and powerful tracking to meet the high autofocus demands of 4K movies. AF tracking sensitivity can be adjusted for stable focus or fast refocusing, depending on the subject. Touch tracking lets you track moving images by simply touching the LCD. Real-time eye-detection AF is now available for movies.
14-bit RAW output for rich color gradations
True 14-bit RAW images are made possible via a powerful LSI and BIONZ X image processor. To maintain smooth, natural color gradations, all processing is done at 16 bits. This means no dithering or processing errors make their way into the final 14-bit RAW image output. The latest high-speed front-end LSI 16-bit image processing
Creative movie options
The camera's interval shooting function24 allows continuous shooting at a set interval of 1 to 60 seconds, which can be used to create a time-lapse movie on a PC. Using the simple preview, you can see how the images look directly on the camera at different speeds. You can record slow motion (up to 5x) and fast motion (up to 60x) movies directly on the camera - without any subsequent editing25. Since it is also possible to record at frame rates of up to 120 frames per second in Full HD, high-quality slow-motion movies can also be created in post-production.
External microphone and audio input and headphone jack
External microphones can be connected via the microphone jack. In addition, you can use a line input via the XLR connectors with the separately available XLR adapter kit. This allows you to connect various high-quality microphones for professional-level audio recording. A headphone jack is also available to check the audio on movies while recording.
S-Gamut/S-Log recording23
S-Log recording23 give you the flexibility to create more expressive videos through color shaping during post-processing. The S-Log3 and S-Log2 gamma curves minimize overexposed highlights and underexposed shadows with their wide dynamic range (up to 1300% greater than Rec. 709). The S-Log3 gamma setting also provides an impressive 14-stop exposure latitude.

The 70-350mm zoom range of this lens (equivalent to 105-525mm at 35mm full frame) allows you to photograph a wide range of subjects - from landscapes to nature and more.
Outstanding image quality at any focal length
An aspherical element and three extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements in a precision optical design reduce aberrations throughout the Lens's zoom range, including chromatic aberration that can occur at super-tele focal lengths. Outstanding sharpness and rendering is achieved at all focal lengths across the entire image range.
Beautiful G Lens Bokeh
A circular aperture improves bokeh quality, allowing the shallow depth of field of a super-telephoto zoom lens to be used to create stunning images with seamless, beautiful G Lens bokeh.
Compact, Mobile 5x Super Telezoom
Although it offers a wide 5x zoom range, this compact Lens only weighs 625g. This maximizes the mobility of the entire camera system.
Clear, blur-free images without a tripod
Built-in SteadyShot optical image stabilization makes it easy to capture blur-free images, especially when shooting at super-telephoto focal lengths.
XD Linear Motor in an APS-C Lens
Sony's XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motor technology is now available in an APS-C lens. Customers will thus benefit from world-class AF performance, featuring speed, precision and consistency. Paired with the real-time AF of the latest compact APS-C bodies, you get a powerful system with ease of use for landscapes, nature and more.
Versatile, customizable focus hold button
A conveniently placed focus hold button provides comfortable focus hold control. The button can also be customized as needed via a camera menu that allows assignment of other functions, such as right/left eye selection.
Quickly switch between automatic and manual focus
An AF/MF focus mode switch on the Lens allows quick and easy switching between automatic and manual focus depending on shooting needs.
Zoom lock switch
Operate the zoom lock switch to prevent the Lens from extending under its own weight during transport.
Protected against dust and splash water
The dust and splash water resistant design provides the necessary reliability in challenging outdoor conditions.*
* Full resistance to dust and splash water not guaranteed.
