The compact ultra wide-angle lens
The new 20mm F2, designed for full-frame, is the perfect ultra wide-angle for anyone looking for a powerful yet compact Lens.
Suitable for full-frame cameras
The 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary is compatible with full-frame mirrorless cameras with L-mount or Sony E-mount.
Developed from scratch, this compact premium ultra-wide angle lens for full-frame mirrorless systems is the latest addition to our I-Series, combining the large aperture of F2, the short focal length of 20mm and breathtaking image quality. The Lens measures just 72.4mm* in length. With its compact shape and low weight of just 370g*, it can become a photographer's constant companion.
*The specifications refer to the L-mount
It is just as ideal for landscape photography as it is for wide-angle portraits, wedding and interior photography. With its well-corrected sagittal coma, it also enables sharp-edged images of the starry sky. As the fourth lens in the I-Series with a speed of F2, it joins the existing focal lengths of 24, 35 and 65mm to form a well-graded lens set for L-mount and Sony E-mount users.
A stepping motor is used for fast focusing.
The autofocus with automatic eye detection used in newer mirrorless cameras is also supported, making precise focusing of portraits, for example, child's play.
New optical performance standards
The 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary achieves high imaging performance from the center to the edge even with an aperture of F2.
Based on the most advanced technology in lens construction, the design includes three high-precision bright-molded aspheres and one SLD and one FLD lens for correcting aberrations. The result is sharp and high-contrast photos right into the corners of the image. SIGMA's lens developers have also focused on reducing sagittal coma, which would be almost impossible to correct in image processing afterwards, to achieve precise imaging of very bright points of light. This results in excellent sharpness across the entire image field and is particularly beneficial for photos of the night sky.
In addition to the optical design of the lens, a super multi-layer coating or nano-porous coating (NPC) on the lenses ensures minimal flare and ghost images, even when strong light sources shine in the direction of the camera. This makes it easier to photograph backlit subjects and get high-contrast shots with the desired "punch".
All I-Series lenses are all-metal constructions.
The precisely manufactured aluminum components not only give the barrel a sleek, elegant finish, but also guarantee excellent durability, which improves the quality of the entire product. The use of precision metal parts ensures smooth operation and exceptional robustness. These high-precision components, manufactured with our innovative metal processing technology, are also used in our cine lenses for professional filmmakers. Among other things, they ensure that the focus ring moves smoothly and the aperture clicks into place almost silently, and this attention to haptics and ergonomics makes working with the Lens a pleasure. The cover between the focus and aperture ring gives your fingers a secure grip when you change the lens.
High-quality coating
An ideal lens directs the incident light through all the lenses and onto the sensor.
If, on the other hand, some of the light is reflected by individual lenses, not only is the light yield reduced - the reflections within the lens create ghost images and flare spots or reduce the contrast. Such effects would be particularly noticeable in backlit shots.
To prevent this, our 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary uses a Super Multi-Layer Coating (SML), which reduces stray light and ghost images. The result is clear, sharp and high-contrast images without annoying lens flares.
