The Leica Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50 ASPH., carefully adapted to the design of modern lenses, marks the return of one of the most famous lenses for the Leica M system. It owes this fame to its still impressive speed, its elaborately manufactured aspherical lenses and its high image quality with a unique look at open aperture. The Noctilux 1:1.2/50 was produced from 1966 to 1975 in an edition of 1757 units.

Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50 ASPH. - becomes part of the classic line
With the Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50 ASPH., Leica is reissuing a Lens that has a very special place in the company's history. The Noctilux 1:1.2/50 was produced between 1966 and 1975 and was a minor sensation as the first ever Lens with aspherically ground lenses. Not only did the first Noctilux achieve legendary status due to its enormous speed, but also due to its image effect, because when the aperture is open, the images appear soft and almost dreamy - an unmistakable look with a special bokeh.
The new Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50 ASPH. retains this very special look, with a design and construction so close to the original that the image effect is comparable. However, the fact that this Lens was calculated more than 50 years ago does not mean that it can only be used for nostalgic experiments, because after stopping down to f/2.8 at the latest, it delivers very sharp images that also meet modern demands for image quality in the digital age. In addition, the lens is still the most compact and lightest Noctilux in the Leica lens range today.
The Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50 ASPH. will be available in two versions.
Before the lens was launched in 1966, M-Lenses were mostly silver and were only rarely produced in black as discreet special models for photo reporters. The Noctilux marked the beginning of the transition to black anodized Lens. Prior to this, around five prototypes had been produced in silver, which today are among the rarest, most sought-after and most expensive M Lens models. There were also only a limited number of 1757 of the series model of the Noctilux 1:1.2/50 in black, meaning that well-maintained examples are now sought-after collector's items.
The black anodized version of the Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50 ASPH. with aluminium mount is now available from specialist retailers at a price of 6950 euros including VAT. The lens is supplied in a box inspired by the original and with a "lens box", a special container in which the lens can be safely stored and which also accompanied the Noctilux 1:1.2/50. The silver chrome-plated version of the Lens, which is available at the same time, is produced in an edition of 100 in a brass mount. In addition, LEITZ WETZLAR instead of LEICA is engraved on the front ring and the packaging will be even more closely based on that of the original.
